After months on research on models and prices, I finally made one of the biggest non-uni related expenses in a long time – my own (serious) camera! And here it is, fresh off the back of the delivery van; a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V digital camera (at one of the best prices around 😀 ).
Now you may be wondering what camera I’ve used since blogging on this site, since I haven’t had one of my own. Both my mum and cousin have been gracious enough to let me borrow their Sony Alpha DSC-S930 and Nikon D3100 respectively. Both of these cameras are DSLR (digital single lens reflex). I had been leaning heavily towards a DSLR, however recently I’ve been speaking to several frog experts who mostly use and recommend what are known as ‘prosumer’ cameras – a camera that sits between a more basic consumer camera and a professional DSLR camera. Reasons for purchasing this type of camera include brighter flash and ease of carrying around (particularly when frogging at night and in the rain). And apparently Sony are at the fore-front of digital camera technology.
This beauty features an 18.2 mega pixel sensor (more then enough) and a 30x optical zoom. Additional features include a pop-out LCD screen for viewing those tricky shots and ‘GPS, Compass and GPS Log REC Functions’. It’s also capable of taking (HD) movies, as are most cameras these days. However, now since it’s becoming cooler, I can’t test it out on many frogs which is unfortunate, but never mind.
So now I should have no excuses for taking brighter photos instead of lightning them in Photoshop as I had been doing previously when necessary. I may focus a little more on photography in my posts now too.
I’m still trying to figure out how to get great frog photos with it!
