Before you get too excited, it’s not what you think. A good (French) friend of mine recently sent me a picture of a frog he’d come across while hiking through the area and was after an identification of it. Whilst it wasn’t the typical green or sometimes brown colour, this Litoria caerulea (Green treefrog) had the distinctive large flat toe-pads that make IDing the species easy.
The blue colouring is as a result of the loss of green skin pigment otherwise common to this species, hence this was a ‘rare’ find – thanks Greg!
(On a side note, I have been frogging a bit since the last post, but I’m waiting for after my next outing to write a collective post. Getting very dry again but SE QLD is predicted to receive just above-average rainfall between December and February – so in any case, stay tuned!)
