The early bird gets the worm

…or the early frog gets the mate, as is the case here.

It has seemed that given any temperature above 15°C that the frogs were out calling for a mate (‘mate’ referring to a female to mate/breed with). The 15th of July we had a slightly warm night and both the Tusked frog and Striped Marsh frog were calling from my pond. More recently, both these two species as well as the Laughing and Emerald-Spotted  treefrogs have been calling, along with the Eastern Sedgefrogs and Stoney-Creek frogs, so I’ve been told. And still the temperatures haven’t been too warm. Which leads me to wonder just how many more species will become active once Spring and Summer properly arrive.
